Enhanced Capabilities:
The Sovereign One represents a significant advancement in shellfish monitoring capabilities for the Puyallup Tribe. Designed with input from senior shellfish monitor Big Bean Flores, this custom-built aluminum catamaran offers superior navigation in rough waters compared to previous vessels.
Flores, with the support of Nancy Shippentower, director of the Shellfish Department, identified the need for a more substantial vessel to replace the aging backup boat. The Sovereign One, with its 35-by-13-foot catamaran design and twin 425-horsepower Yamaha motors, exceeds expectations.
Operational Features:
Geared with a host of features for operational efficiency, the Sovereign One includes handrails on fore & aft decks, extended T-transom with hinged aluminum gate, forward detachable radar & antenna mast, side boarding doors, hull access hatch with gas strut & ladder, watertight hinged hatch, storage lockers with gas struts & macerator for discharge, battery lockers, tie-up cleats, anodes for cathodic protection, ladder to upper deck, downrigger pads, and aluminum rocket launchers.
Safety and Comfort:
The Sovereign One is outfitted with insulation and heaters to guarantee the safety and comfort of shellfish monitors, particularly during cold winter months. Alongside advanced navigation and communication systems, such as Garmin GPSMAP, VHF radios, and radar, the vessel is engineered to ensure both safety and efficiency in all conditions. Its primary objective is to safeguard monitors and facilitate their effective performance of duties, which includes enforcing adherence to correct boundaries and water depth regulations for divers, as well as monitoring weather patterns to ensure safe harvesting conditions.
The delivery of the Sovereign One underscores BRIX Marine’s commitment to delivering purpose-built vessels that meet the unique needs of its clients.
